Cross Bay walk
Walk the beautiful Morecambe Bay Sands and raise funds for Lancashire Mind
Sometime in June, July or August, we get a big group of people together and join groups from other north west charities to walk across Morecambe Bay. The walk is led by an expert from Guide over Sands Trust who understands the changing nature of the bay and can safely lead people on this stunning trek across the sands.

Walking for Sian
The walk is held in memory of Sian Waterhouse raising funds for Lancashire Mind
Our walk is held in memory of Sian Waterhouse, who died by suicide aged 16 in February 2018. Sian’s family and friends have raised an incredible amount for Lancashire Mind over the last few years, enabling us to offer more services, particularly in north Lancashire where Sian grew up.

"Myself and 29 colleagues from Electricity North West had an amazing time completing the cross bay walk for Lancashire Mind. It was a really fun experience and a day where we all got to know each other a little better. Cross Bay Walk participant."
Frequently asked questions
What if the event needs to be cancelled?
Every year there is a chance walks will need to be re-arranged if the event can not safely go ahead. Should the event need to be cancelled for any other reason including, but not limited to, poor weather or a health outbreak, every effort will be made to provide a new date. Please note: The Guides check the route is safe the day before, and final decisions can be made the morning of the event, so this does mean the walk can be cancelled at short notice.
How long and far is the walk?
The walk will take 3-4 hours covering a distance of 5.5-7.5 miles from Arnside to Grange. Parts of the walk may be challenging. Changeable weather and a varying terrain will be encountered. First and foremost you should be able to walk up to 7.5 miles.
What is the ground like underfoot?
Underfoot, Arnside to the shore includes sand, footpaths, lanes and marshland. The bulk of the crossing is flat sand often rippled and sometimes covered in water. Half way across you will navigate the Kent River where you can expect an average depth of up to 2ft (60cm) for a distance of some 50m. The final leg of the walk is over marsh: this is a clear pathway but may sometimes be slippery. Please ensure that all those under 18 taking part in the walk are supervised by an adult at all times.
