James' Story: 25 Lancashire Minds
James’ Story
A decade ago, James walked through the doors at Lancashire Mind. On that day neither he nor the Lancashire Mind team knew just what an incredible contribution he was about to make.
Fast forward to 2025 and James has given over 2,300 hours of his time to Lancashire Mind. In that time, he has changed lives, supported projects when workloads have grown and become a part of the Lancashire Mind team. The time James has given Lancashire Mind is the equivalent to £34,500 in staff time. £34,000 could provide 76 people with 121 life changing wellbeing coaching or fund our school resilience programme Bounce Forward to 17 schools reaching over 500 young people.
James said: “I choose to volunteer for Lancashire Mind because it’s my local charity and I believe in their vision. I am very proud to volunteer and want to continue for as long as I can.
“I do everything from research to stock counting to typing up notes and inputting data. The best part of the role is the research into community groups and support groups. This is because I know I am helping people and bridging the gaps by building links with other charities and organisations for people who need it.”
Administration Officer Lisa who has worked with James for the past eight years said: “The help James provides is impossible to describe. Over the years he has supported every team within Lancashire Mind and no ask is too much. He comes into the office every week and works so hard. He has been a huge help to me many times supporting with my work and the work of others. We are so lucky to have James at Lancashire Mind.”
James, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, has gain a lot from volunteering at Lancashire Mind over the years. In addition to the new skills and knowledge he has developed which he says looks good on his CV, James also credits the role with getting him out of the house and helping him during covid.
Whilst James has made an incredible contribution through volunteering even giving a few hours to Lancashire Mind through volunteering could make the world of difference. We are looking for people of all backgrounds, ages and skill sets to join our team. We provide a full volunteer induction and work with you to find the right role for you doing something you enjoy whilst allowing you to develop skills and make a difference.
